Pirate Master Real-Life Tragedy!!

July 30, 2007 by Lynn

Cheryl

I have some very upsetting news to report to reality TV fans. One of the Pirate Master cast members, Cheryl Kosewicz, was found dead this weekend, apparently the victim of suicide.

As a person who has had a close family member commit suicide, I feel the pain and sadness for her friends and family as if it were my own tragedy all over again. She seemed to have had so much going for her. How sad that she decided to cut her life so tragically short.

There is a very detailed article on Reality Blurred about her last messages to her fellow cast members and about her boyfriend who had recently committed suicide himself. They did a great job of writing about her, so please take a moment to go read their article.

My sincere heartfelt condolences go out to her friends and family. I’m so sorry for your loss!

Rupert Boneham: the Original Pirate?

July 2, 2007 by Lynn

Rupert

Apparently, Rupert Boneham of Survivor asked (his manager says that he practically begged) to be on the Pirate Master series. They did not ask him to be a part of the show, but they did have the nerve to ask him for his advice a lot for the show.

On a related note, a couple of people at the Reality TV Convention said that they know people who think that Louie on Pirate Master IS Rupert.

GEEZ! Louie may be cool and all, but no one’s as cool as Rupert!

Pirate Master Premiere – John Set Adrift

June 1, 2007 by Lynn

JohnPirate Master premiered last night after the most show hype of any show in years. It reminded me a bit of last summer’s Treasure Hunters because of the treasure maps and compasses. And there’s a touch of Survivor in it too, but the show adds a few of its own unique touches too.

Instead of building to a big payoff for one fortunate player at the end of the season, Pirate Masters will have the pirates search for parts of the million dollars each week and will split what they find.

But there’s a huge catch. The captain (the crew voted JD as the captain) gets 50% of the loot each time. And his two officers get to split 50% of what’s left. The remainder is left to split among the pirates who found it.

Now we can see that the scene has been set for some nasty cutthroat play and full-on backstabbing.

Last night, John was set adrift and took with him the two compasses which he had stolen in order to try to save himself from being eliminated. Now we will get to see the pirates try to find their treasure without a compass to guide them. The stakes just went up.

I’m personally not a fan of shows where the object is to backstab the others, but we’ll see how this one plays out.

What did you think of Pirate Masters? Are you looking forward to the next episode, or will you tune in to other shows instead? Leave a comment to share your thoughts!
