Last Comic Standing: Meet the Finalists!

July 12, 2008 by Lynn

last_comic_standing_logo-sm.jpgWell, two comics that I have seen perform in person and loved were not put through past the semi-finals. So that means that these folks are supposedly even funnier! I love most of their routines and can’t wait to see who wins this season. It’s a fantastic group of comics once again! Here are the finalists:

Sean CullenSEAN CULLEN
Hometown: Peterborough, Ontario Canada
Currently resides in: Toronto

Sean Cullen, who describes his style of comedy as a hybrid of stand-up, impressions, music and characters, initially studied acting at the University of Windsor in Ontario. But he had a hard time fitting in to the regimen of drama school, and ultimately decided that comedy offered a lot more freedom of choice than acting. He has been making audiences laugh ever since, touring and performing for the past 20 years. He considers the first time he appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” to be a career highlight, and says, “The best thing about being a comedian is that many people go to work every day doing things they really don’t want to do. I love my job. I love the danger of it. I love not lifting things.” Cullen says, “I think I’ll be the ‘Last Comic Standing’ because I’m different from everyone else in the competition. I think America is ready for something new, a hybrid of many styles of performance. My versatility is my greatest strength. Also, I am a robot from the future.”

Last Comic Standing: Auditions Continue

May 30, 2008 by Lynn

last_comic_standing_logo-sm.jpgThis week, we got to see more of the auditions for the sixth season of Last Comic Standing. (Has it really been that many?) I love watching some of the auditioners crash and burn while others just shine. I wish more of this week’s comics could have made it through to the next round, but I understand that they can’t all make it through.

One of the acts I really enjoyed watching was campy, but funny. It was the self-described “Musical Lovemasters”, or Dos Spanish Flies I thought they were fantastic! But alas, they didn’t make it through…

One act that I feared would make it through and thankfully, it didn’t was Elvis Poultry. Yes, folks, it was a grown man dressed as a cross between a giant chicken and Elvis…need I say more? Hopefully, we’ll nver be subjected to that again!

And then there’s Andi Smith. I am thrilled to have seen her perform live a couple of times and think she’s hilarious! I’m very happy that she made it to the next round and I would like to see her go all the way to the end of the season. Just wait, you’ll see…

Next week, we continue on the search for the finalists. So far, the season looks like it will be another winner!

What did you think of this week’s comics? Did your favorites make it through? Leave a comment and let’s discuss!

Last Comic Standing: Season Six Begins

May 25, 2008 by Lynn

last_comic_standing_logo-sm.jpgHost Bill Bellamy is back with his characteristic smooth style to bring us the sixth season of Last Comic Standing. I’ve never missed an episode since the very first season. I love it!!

As always, the season began with the auditions of various levels of comic talent around the nation. This week, we saw some good comics, some alarmingly bad and some that are just simply not memorable.

There were the usual assortment of people in stupid costumes who had nothing else to offer and the self-deprecating dweebs. There were the pathetic and the truly hilarious. In the end, we saw some really good comics make it through to the next round and a lot of them go home.

The one notable pair that made it through that I just didn’t find funny were the identical twins that just talked over the top of each other. Totally not funny.

But the pair of “Christian singers” that call themselves “God’s Pottery” was wonderful and Esther Ku was terrific too. It will be interesting to see who goes on to make the finals. I love this show and think we are in for another great season!

Last Comic Standing: Jon Reep Wins!

September 20, 2007 by Lynn

Jon Reep

It’s official, folks, comic Jon Reep is the Last Comic Standing this season.

I have to admit that being originally from the South, I didn’t find his humor all that funny. I’ve heard it all many times before. There’s nothing new to making fun of southern people. And with me living in St. Louis, I was rooting for home town boy, Lavell Crawford. *sigh*

But, alas, people all over the world voted and apparently, they disagree with me. Jon was voted the winner for the fifth season.

Jon, you worked hard and the world loves you. Congratulations on your win!
