Design Star Season 3: Sneak Peek at Tonight’s Episode
July 27, 2008 by Lynn
Jennifer Bertrand and Matt Locke will go head to head in the final showdown on tonight’s episode of HGTV’s Design Star. And just because they are in a competition for their own new TV show doesn’t mean that they can’t do something great for two deserving families in New Orleans.
Members of both families were in New Orleans and worked around the clock to help everyone else during the Hurricane Katrina nightmare and now, with the help of the two finalists, they will get help rebuilding their own homes. This one should be both interesting and touching! Here’s a sneak peek:

Great news for reality fans! HGTV’s hit reality competition, Design Star is back for its third season. We all saw the first two winners, David Bromstad & Kim Myles, struggle to the finish of this show and now we get to see the next design star emerge.
This time, there’s a bit of a surprise for us when the series premieres. We won’t know who the ninth competitor is until June 8th. The two semi-finalists have been up for the audience vote and the winner will be revealed on the premiere episode. Be sure to tune in for that on June 8 at 9/8c on HGTV! But until then, get to know the finalists.

Exclusive Interview With Kim Myles, Star of “Myles of Style”
March 27, 2008 by Lynn
Last year, I was thrilled to get an exclusive interview with David Bromstad, the first winner of HGTV’s Degin Star. And now, I’m thrilled again because I got the chance to exclusively ask questions of the second Design Star winner, Kim Myles.
She’s just launched her brand new HGTV series, Myles of Style and she’s certainly a busy person! But thank goodness, she took a few minutes to answer some questions. She’s so postive and fun - I think you’ll see what I mean in her answers. Check it out:
Question: What will set your new show apart from the other design shows on HGTV?
Kim Myles: I do!! As a person who is passionate about design, but not formally trained, I have no fear of breaking the rules. Add a whimsical sensibility and super creativity, and you get some really exciting and unexpected design choices; it may not be to your taste, but I promise you’ll have an opinion one way or the other.
Q: What do you think was your key to success in the Design Star competition?

Design Star Winner, Kim Myles Interview
October 9, 2007 by Lynn
Latoya West at About.com was able to exchange email Q&A with Design Star winner, Kim Myles recently. (Lucky Latoya!) Here’s an excerpt from the email interview:
- How does it feel to be joining the HGTV family?
It feels amazing! I’m an avid HGTV viewer, so to be invited to join the ranks of my favorite designers and TV personalities is a dream come true.- What can we expect from you new show?
It’s my hope that my new show will be a reflection of who I am: fun, adventurous, whimsical, and accessible. I’d love it if HGTV viewers considered my show a ‘fun date’ with me; they’ll have a blast watching, and they’ll come away with user-friendly design information each week.- Do you keep in touch with the other Design Star contestants?
Absolutely! The unexpected gift of Design Star has been the very real connections and friendships we’ve all formed with each other. We’re all very different, but we share the language of design and we were all in the trenches together. (Nothing bonds you like sharing a sink at 4:30am!)
Be sure to go read the rest of the interview on Latoya’s site.

Design Star Two More Designers Go Home
August 21, 2007 by Lynn
This week, the designers had to design a wedding reception for a couple who had totally opposite tastes. The bride wanted to be the princess, with lavender and white and have a very elegant reception. The groom wanted a Vegas theme, with dice, Roulette table, and using the colors red and black. (Yuck!)
Each designer created their own design and presented it to the couple. The couple chose to use Robb’s design. That meant that he had to lead the others in implementing it for the couple. The design they liked the least was Christina’s. She was eliminated right then. (At least she didn’t have to help put together that train wreck of a reception design…)
After the reception was all over, the couple was thrilled with the results. So Robb won some diamonds as his prize for the challenge. When asked which of the others was the weakest link, he tried to throw Will under the bus. Luckily for Will, the judges didn’t seem to buy it.
However, my favorite designer this season, Sparkle Josh had his show cancelled too. How disappointing! I really liked him! But I like Will and Todd a lot too, so at least they are still there…
Last year’s winner, David Bromstad, has posted his own vlog about this episode, and you can watch it by going to this page and clicking on it about half way down. It’s great to get to hear his point of view, as someone who has been through this competition successfully before.
Who do you hope wins this season’s Design Star? Who do you hope is eliminated next? Leave a comment to let us know!

Design Star Two More Designers’ Shows Were Cancelled

This week was the first individual challenge for the designers. They had only a limited budget and had to buy everything to decorate their room from the $.99 Store. They were also allowed to buy two gallons of paint of their choice.
The winning room was done by Todd and was really more of a piece of art than a usable room. I liked the fact that he made the room look like a giant wave was crashing into it, but I was rather disappointed that he wasn’t called out for making a totally impractical room. No one would have that room in their house, so why is it fair? It’s not an art show; it’s a home design show. But, I digress…
Other than that, I loved all the rooms. The only one that I thought was not good was Scott’s. It was just plain cluttered looking. He chose really wonderful things and the color was great, but he should have left out about 75% of the “stuff”. The judges agreed with my opinion and he was sent packing.
The other designer who was eliminated did a good job, but just wasn’t up to the level of the others this week. Adriana did a serene room, but she was eliminated anyway.
