Survivor: China - Wisdom From Bruce Kanegai & “The Art of War”

Once again, my friend, former Survivor, Bruce Kanegai (whom I owe a double shot of Jack Daniels’ next weekend at the Survivor charity event) has offered up his Survivor-eye view of the most recent episode. He even quotes the Chinese book The Art of War given to each tribe on scrolls at the beginning of the season. Enjoy:
Sorry for the late post, but I’m still in shock over the most stupid, idiotic, and lame strategy in the history of Tribal Council. I was speechless for days because I was hoping James would be in the Final Four. His 2 Hidden Immunity Idols were as valuable as tickets to the USA Basketball finals in the 1980 Olympics or a signed baseball from the 1994 World Series Baseball game. Worthless!
Instead of quoting the forbidden apple in the Garden of Eden, James should have been quoting Sun Tzu. After all, everyone was told to read the book. Now, James will not taste the fruit, but six people will feast on the apple pie ala mode next week, thanks to James.
“IF IGNORANT BOTH OF YOUR ENEMY AND YOURSELF, YOU ARE CERTAIN TO BE IN PERIL.” ~ SUN TZU
(follow the jump for the rest)
Congrats to Peih-Gee for the victory of the Reward Challenge to the 1500 year old Shaolin Temple. Denise had the honor of performing a Kata (form movement) in front of the kids and monks. (One of my highlights was being able to perform a Kata in front of the kids on the island in Panama on our food reward.)
It was pretty pathetic to see the other four squatting in a mudhole, when all this time they could have been improving their sleeping quarters each day. Even the homeless in downtown LA have a better situation. But, Hea what De Fung.
I like Amanda’s strategy, “A chance to make it happen the way I want it to happen.”
“LET YOUR PLANS BE DARK AND AS PENETRATABLE AS NIGHT, AND WHEN YOU MOVE, FALL LIKE A THUNDER BOLT.” ~ SUN TZU
James had a chance when Erik approached him to join Peih-Gee to campaign to oust Todd. Todd is the smartest one out there, so it would have been a good time to flip. Then, it would have caught Todd unprepared, instead of James. It’s all about strategy and SUN TZU.
“HE WILL WIN WHO, PREPARED HIMSELF WAITS TO TAKE THE ENEMY UNPREPARED.” ~ SUN TZU
The Immunity Challenge with the Ninja stars was good. I think the final 3 should have competed with poison blow darts. I heard Mark Burnett got in trouble with the Chinese government with this challenge because Peih-Gee and Courtney killed a couple of rare ground squirrels with their throws in the ground. Todd stuck one in the man’s crotch. Hmmm. Back at camp, there were a lot of meetings, let’s take a walk talk, strategizing, thumbs up, and winks. Amanda thinks like SUN TZU.
“SECRET OPERATIONS ARE ESSENTIAL IN WAR, UPON THEM THE ARMY RELIES TO MAKE ITS EVERY MOVE.” ~ SUN TZU
Todd gives a little SUN TZU quote, “KEEP YOUR FRIENDS, BUT KEEP YOUR ENEMIES CLOSER.”
James brings his 2 Hidden Immunity Idols, just in case. In case of what? In case Jeff tells James that he better use one of them? When does he plan to use them? It would have been a memorable Tribal Council with Peih-Gee and Todd with one vote each, and James would be in the Final 5 guaranteed. But James owns the tickets to the 1994 World Series games and to the 1980 Olympic USA Basketball finals.
The Jury laughed and the Tribe had spoken. James was the weakest one in understanding the strategy of Survivor.
“SO IN WAR, THE WAY IS TO AVOID WHAT IS STRONG AND TO STRIKE WHAT IS WEAK.” ~ SUN TZU
“BUT HEA, WHAT DE FUNG.” ~ BRUCE KANEGAI
“AMANDA, TODD, COURTNEY, AND PEIH-GEE WILL EMERGE AS THE GENERALS WHO OUTLAST, OUTPLAY, AND OUTWIT THE TRIBE.” ~ BRUCE KANEGAI
