The Next Great American Band: A Shocking Elimination!

Once again, the bands were called up one by one to perform, only one band was eliminated. Each band had to perform a song written by songwriting team, Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller. There are so many good ones, it’ll be interesting to see what they play.

The first group to perform was Light of Doom. These young guys are obviously the favorites of the younger female audience and they certainly are talented, especially for their age. They performed Jailhouse Rock. They’re so young, they may not realize how daunting the task of reinventing that song really was. But they did a good job.
(the rest are after the jump)

Next to perform were The Clark Brothers. They took on the song Saved. They did their best to make a very bluesy song into a country song, but it just didn’t work for me.

Then, Dot Dot Dot took the stage to perform the song Love Potion #9. They did a very good job with it. I liked their version a lot, especially Rose’s guitar solo.

Cliff Wagner and the Old No. 7 played next and did a fun version of Poison Ivy. For the first time, it didn’t sound all that bluegrass.

Denver & the Mile High Orchestra were next to perform and did a rendition of Ruby Baby. For the first time, they didn’t sound “big band”. I liked them better this time. But still, for me, they are a band I could enjoy swing dancing to, but would never just choose to listen. (Sorry, just my opinion…)

Then Sixwire played their version of the song I Keep Forgettin’. This is one of my favorite Michael McDonald songs, so this was hard for me, but they did a pretty good job with it. Thank goodness they didn’t make it sound too country!

Trés Bien was the last band chosen to perform, but I’m totally in shock and disappointment!! (Sorry, Trés Bien!) They sang a new version of Some Other Guy. I totally expected them to go home this week. I’m just not a fan.
Franklin Bridge was SO much better than nearly all the other groups!! This is incredible! I thought they would win it all. What a terible development!
These are my opinions, but I’m interested in hearing yours too. So what did you think of Franklin Bridge being eliminated? Who were your favorites? Did you vote? Who do you think needs to go home next? Leave a comment to share your thoughts!
