Chef Gordon Ramsay Saves Failing Restaurants and Tells Us What to Avoid

by Lynn on October 14th, 2007

Chef Gordon Ramsay who most Americans first saw as the tough taskmaster on Hell’s Kitchen has a new reality show called Kitchen Nightmares. If you enjoy Hell’s Kitchen, you really must tune in to see Chef Ramsay go to work to whip failing restaurants into shape.

Here’s a bit that ran in the October 15, 2007 issue of People Magazine:

The assignment of cleaning up and relaunching restaurants is not new to Ramsay, since he’s had a BBC show called Kichen Nightmares for some time now. However, as you could expect, it’s gotten bigger and bolder in the US version. (review continues after the jump)

In the UK version, Chef Ramsay doesn’t provide any equipment or find new chefs to step in. It’s up the the owners to cough up the bucks to make the changes, he just guides them. In the US version, he provides them (often even surprises them) with new equipment and even goes out to recruit other chefs to come in and help with menu creation and the launch.

Also, the restauranteurs are more “colorful” in the US. In the UK, they are usually only disorganized, not outright nuts, like the US owners we’ve met so far.

I enjoyed the show on BBC and I’m enjoying it on FOX now too. Chef Ramsay has really proven that he knows his stuff.

I would like to know how to go about having Gordon help out a failing restaurant. I worked at a place for 9 years. The owner was out of control and yelled at staff in the middle of the dinning room. Hasn’t finished repairs he started to do. He’s crazy. Please let me know how to get Gordon’s help.

I would suggest you try to get in touch with someone at FOX network. I’m sure they would love another restaurant to feature. Unfortunately, I am not affiliated with FOX, so I can’t help you out myself. Thanks for asking, though. Best of luck!

GORDON RAMSEY - UNBELIEVABLE GENIUS - NOT ONLY KNOWS WHAT’S WRONG WITH A BUSINESS, BUT HOW STAFF AND OWNERS NEED TO CHANGE TO MAKE IT WORK. I’VE NEVER SEEN SOMEONE EMPOWER PEOPLE SO EFFECTIVLY - AMAZING TO WATCH AND INSPIRING TO SEE THAT A WORKPLACE REALLY CAN RUN EFFECIENTLY AND PEOPLE CAN RESPOND EFFECTIVLY TO CHALLENGES… WHY DO WE ACCEPT ANYTHING ELSE…. EVER?

Hi, my wife means the world to me, we have a family cafe ( i know we’re not a restaurant, but we hospitality family should help one another… ) which she manages, cooks, barrister, pretty much does it all on her own, yeah she has staff but pretty much better off doing it herself, apart from the one awesum barrister on the weekends. Anyway my reason for writing is that she loves to cook, it’s her passion runs in the family, she’s a damn good cook too, but it’s all gonna be over soon, because her step -mum is selling the cafe.
We’ve tried to get a mortgage to buy it but no luck. What im trying to say is that, all the sweat and hard yards ( during work, late nightsafter work, and even till early mornings ) she’s put in, from the time her step-mother bought the bussiness ( which was really BAD, had lost all cliental ), to how it is now ( has a awesum reputation, plenty of regulars and clientals too ), i’d hate for her to see it all disappear. She has potential, passion, charisma but more important she has the heart n soul for cooking. I know that she may not be a ” Five Star ” or a wot ever ” Star ” chef, cook wot ever you call ‘em, but i know that she will damn well give ‘em a good run for there money… I know that she’d love to appear on a cooking programme or competition of Mr Ramsey’s, or even have a cooking lession sesson, would be the highlight of it all, and maybe make her forget about the cafe for a moment. But we live in New Zealand. Maybe if Mr Ramsey could do a series here in New Zealand and she was one of the first invited to his show, i know she’d be thrilled. I honestly just wanna give her something back which means alot to her and i know that she loves Mr Ramsey’s cooking programmes, and his cooking style and way’s of doing things. If there’s a possibility or a way that Mr Ramsey or Co colud help me help suprising my wife, would really appreciate it, if not im sure she’ll see the humour of it, a big framed F@*K YOU signed by Gordon Ramsey himself would be appreciated and Cherrished too.

    Thanks Heaps
    Tevita.

ps hope to hear from you soon.
