A Bonaduce / Fairplay Beatdown!

by Lynn on October 4th, 2007

Apparently, things got a little out of hand at one point in the taping of the FOX Reality Really Awards Show on Oct. 2. Somehow, Danny Bonaduce ended up sending Survivor’s Jonny Fairplay to the hospital in an ambulance. Here are photos of the incident (follow the jump to see them in large sizes.)

Here’s what VH1 has to say about the fray:

You’d expect there to be drama at an awards show for reality TV stars, but it appears Danny Bonaduce took it to the next level last night. Are you surprised? According to TMZ, the Breaking Bonaduce star hopped on-stage at the FOX Reality Channel Really Awards, picked up notorious Survivor contestant Jonny Fairplay (who is having a baby with America’s Next Top Model reject Michelle, natch) and slammed the guy on his face, leaving him bloodied and toothless. Fairplay was hauled off to the hospital in an ambulance, while Bonaduce went on Adam Carolla’s radio show this morning to explain that he’s always been bugged by Fairplay (who lied on Survivor to win sympathy), so he had no problem stepping on-stage to inform Fairplay that the crowd was booing him. Fairplay jumped into Bonaduce’s arms and then the Bonaduce beatdown occured. Danny should probably save his “testimony” for a judge, seeing as he’s now the suspect in a “felony battery report.” Reality sure is sweet!

So do I have to tell you again to watch the FOX Reality Channel Really Awards on October 13 and then come back here afterwards for the recap? ;-)

And here’s the press release from FOX Reality:

The taping of Fox Reality Channel’s “2007 Really Awards” show, which the net will air on Saturday, October 13 at 10PM ET/10PM PT, teemed with sprightly Reality stars who hoped to garner coveted Realitini trophies for their outstanding performances in the Reality TV universe.

The event, held at Boulevard 3 in Hollywood, attracted talent who are notorious for creating headlines. There was the abrasive Janice Dickinson, the mesmerizing Elvira, and the soulful songbird himself, Sanjaya. However, the fusion of all of this star power in one room had thrilling but ultimately cataclysmic potential.

Case in point: the incident that will forever go down in Reality history as the Fairplay Flip.

The disaster began when the recipient of last year’s Golden Realitini Award, the animated Jonny Fairplay (“Survivor”), took the “Really” stage to announce this year’s winner of the prestigious prize. Shortly after, Danny Bonaduce stepped onto the stage. From that point on, the action became unclear but ultimately resulted in Fairplay’s body lying eerily contorted on the stage. While Bonaduce vanished and Fairplay walked backstage, Alexis Arquette (“The Surreal Life”) arrived to salvage the portion of Fairplay’s speech that he was now inept to deliver.

Arquette awarded the Golden Realitini to this year’s winner (You’ll have to watch on October 13 to find out who won!), but not before revealing to the shocked crowd that there were remnants of Fairplay’s blood on the stage.

Jonny Fairplay exited the event in an ambulance.

Bonaduce was fully justified in throwing that jackass off of him. Fairplay is lucky that he didn’t get a full asswhipping.

It seems that the question here should be - What was the intent of Mr. Fairplay and What was the intent of Mr. Bonaduce? Actually, I have several questions: Was the intent of Mr. Fairplay to assault Mr. Bonaduce? Was the intent of Mr. Bonaduce to defend himself by throwing Mr. Fairplay over and behind him? Did Mr. Bonaduce react with reasonable and defensive force? Was Mr. Bonaduce in reasonable fear for his immediate saftey? Did Mr. Fairplay violate any laws or contracts related to “performance” on the TV show? How does Mr. Bonaduce feel about injuring an apparenly “wimpy” Mr. Fairplay…hey, I’ve seen Mr. Fairplay active in sport…he is certainly no threat to the buff, rough and able, Mr. Bonaduce. All said…suck it up Mr. Fairplay…mess with the bull…you may just get the horns!

It’s obvious that Fairplay’s intent was to humiliate Bonaduce. Intent doesn’t play into Bonaduce’s actions because his reaction ended as soon as the threat from Fairplay ended. If Bonaduce would have kicked Fairplay while he was down (as most would have done in the heat of the moment) then liability would have attached because the law says that you can only defend yourself until a reasonable person believes the threat is over. Bonaduce’s macho posturing after the fact is also irrelevant.

I guess my question is: Would a reasonable person believe there was a threat when Mr. Fairplay first motioned to Mr. Bonaduce and the crowd that he was about to perform something (note the touch of Mr. Bonaduce’s shoulder and the index finger, wait for this, in the air to the crowd) before the jump? Remember, Mr. Fairplay motioned to Mr. Bonaduce and the crowd that there was “something” to come (perhaps in reply to Mr. Bonaduce’s comments prior to the show relating to “kicking Fairplay’s ass”). All said, I wonder if Mr. Bonaduce did actually think ther was a “threat” or if he say it as an opportunity to “kick his ass”. Food for thought…
