Season Premiere: Beauty & the Geek 3
In an earlier post, I gave the names and photos of the teams for this season.
They did a great job finding super geeky guys and great-looking girls for this season’s show. They chose their partners this time without actually getting to see them. It was pretty frustrating for some of the women who admitted that they normally rely on their looks. After the introductions, all the cast members started to realize just how tough this challenge was going to be: to change each other over the period of the show.
Tori started off by teaching Sanjay about some slang he was unfamiliar with. for instance, he and all the other geeks only thought that “getting some booty” had to do with finding pirate’s treasure. She set them straight on the meaning. (This should be fun to watch…)
The first challenge was for immunity. It started in a library where the girls had to use the Dewey decimal system to find three specific books. Once they found the books each contained instructions for the guys’ portion of the challenge. All of their tasks involved being social with complete strangers.
It was a struggle for some of the women, Tori ended up in tears over the Dewey decimal system part. And the guys had a tough time getting total strangers to rub sunscreen on their backs. They also had to get a woman to give them their phone number and had to borrow a cell phone to make a call.

It was close, but Nate & Cecille won the challenge and got immunity. However, the first night there was no elimination. But they were offered money to leave then instead of staying in the competition. Each of the teams discussed it and after being offered up to $20,000, no one took the money. They all decided to stay in the game.
The next day, the first real challenge happened. The girls had to carry on a serious, intellectual conversation about current events, while the guys had to write and perform a stand-up comedy routine.
The guys had to get on stage at a regular comedy club and perform their routines. Drew, the Trekker, said that when he got on stage it was like the eyes of the audience were phasers aimed at him. He said he felt like a starship without any shields. (Why didn’t he say that for his routine…I’m chuckling, just typing it.)

Most of the guys bombed, but Nate came through with some funny stuff:
He likes nature and all, but if it was up to him, he would do allergies differently. He wouldn’t have people be allergic to small things like dust and pollen, he’d have them be allergic to large things, like sharks and tigers. (Looks at his arm) Hey, I’ve got a rash, there must be a tiger around here somewhere. (Acts like he’s swimming) My nose is running, where’s that shark? Hey, I’ve got a rash too…it must be a tiger shark.
In fact, Nate won, with 86% of the votes. He’s off to a great start! That means that he and Cecille got to chose a team to go to the elimination room.
The girls had to go to a TV station and play anchor woman. They had to read a teleprompter introduction, then interview the co-author of the book, Freakonomics, on current events.
Of all the women, Sheree did the best interview. She was poised and seemed comfortable and really seemed to “get” the book. That meant that she and Piao would have to choose the other team to go to the elimination room.
After deliberating, the two teams chosen to go to the elimination room were Sanjay & Tori and Erin & Drew. The guys were asked about things that make women laugh and the women were asked about current events.

The team eliminated was Tori & Sanjay.
There were a lot of subtle changes this time, but overall, it’s the same fun show. Stick with me as I cover the entire season.

The season premiere was outrageous. The girls seem a bit more mean this time around, and that Nate guy seems like he might actually be cool. I think this is going to be a hilarious season.

It was totally obvious that Tori & Sanjay would be eliminated. They had the least creative takes in the show credits.

I agree about the girls being more judgemental than the previous groups, and what was with the baby-talk when Cecille was fixing the guy’s hair? Is she kidding?
It was also pretty clear that Tori was not taking the tasks seriously, going to bed without studying… It’s a shame for Sanjay that he got someone that wasn’t there for him as a partner.
I think it’s going to be a fun season, though. So far, Nate, Sheree and maybe Drew seem like they have some real potential. It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out.

I agree Sheree did do the best interview I find this show enjoyable. Also Nate and Mario were funny in their comedy skids. Each group of women the beauties will help the men the geeks, and vice versa. There are 8 teams I think Cecille and Nate have a chance to win the Beauty and Geek Poll.
