Thumbs Up for Ice-T’s Rap School

by Lynn on November 19th, 2006

I just have to say a few words about a terrific reality show that aired on VH1: Ice-T’s Rap School. Those of you not into the hip-hop scene probably know Ice-T from his role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He’s great on that show, but I have to say that I loved getting a chance to see more of the real Ice-T in Rap School.

He went to a top New York City prep school and took a bunch of preppie kids and made them into a rap crew. When he started with the group, they each had their issues, lack of self confidence, one had a stutter, and none of them even knew much about rap.

Through patient guidance, tough love and total encouragement, Ice-T transformed those kids into confident, amazing performers who actually opened for the rap group, Public Enemy.

I have to admit to not being a huge rap fan, but I love seeing people learn and grow in unusual circumstances and this show truly lived up to that. I found myself with tears in my eyes after the big performance, when Ice-T was saying his goodbyes to the crew. Each of the kids was changed and grew incredibly from the experience and it was truly good TV.

If you missed the show, you can go to the VH1 site and watch videos and see episode information. And there’s still time to catch the season finale on VH1; Tue 11.21 at 2:30 AM, Tue 11.21 at 12:00 PM, and Thu 11.23 at 11:30 AM.
